BABELGUM FILMS VUVUZUELAS’ PROTEST
Babelgum has joined Kickstarter (the project involving hundreds of vuvuzela players protesting outside Bp’s headquarters, the company responsible for the disaster of the Gulf of Mexico).
The idea came from Adam Quirk, a video-artist who launched (thanks to Mashable’s support) a public initiative to support the cause. The goal is to raise $2,000. Success has come straight away: over $6,000 have been collected in 48 hours and organizers are hoping to raise $10,000.
ZELIGTUBE IS BORN: THE VIDEO PORTAL FOR ITALIAN AND INTERNATIONAL COMEDY
14 June 2010. Time for the Football World Championships and also for innovation on the web. Shortly before the whistle was blown signifying the beginning of the opening match of the Italian team, the green light was given to the launch of Zeligtube, the first online video portal dedicated to the best of Italian and international comedy. The event was a real “show”: a full hour of jokes and laughs from the numerous artists on the stage and the large audience (among which were several dozen bloggers) in the historical hall of Zelig in Milan, the most famous cabaret in Italy.
Zeligtube is an online space with hundreds of unedited, high-quality clips that have been created and produced especially for the web, with dozens of artists that were bred in the prestigious hall of Zelig and reviewed by Gino & Michele, one of the most famous couples to write satire and comedy that is “Made in Italy”.
For Babelgum, the agreement with Zelig represents another milestone in its growth in the Italian market: the worldwide web television founded in 2005 by Silvio Scaglia, the former patron of Fastweb, continues to develop innovative mobile video applications such as l’Isola dei Famosi, Gazzetta dello Sport, Coldplay and Metacafe.
The collection of clips on www.zeligtube.com is also available for the iPhone, and can be downloaded from iTunes. There is no lack in international contributions, with a wide selection of American comedies produced especially for the web, like Vamped Out, for example. In order to be interactive and highly customizable, Zeligtube allows its users to create their own playlists and to share their favourite videos – through its integration with Facebook. This “virtual theatre” will soon become the place to discover new talent in Italian comedy: in the near future other sections will be set up, among which one dedicated to talent scouting.
One of the objectives of Zeligtube is to become the number one window on the web for Italian comedy and a portal showcasing the most important artists on the national scene where comedians can also manage their page directly and upload their clips. It will not only be a “catalogue” of the main characters, but also a further meeting place for its users who can send messages to the individual pages of the artists. And, as the Italian economic daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore also reminds us: “The direct upload function will soon be activated, or rather the possibility for aspiring comedians, writers and illustrators to send videos, texts and sketches to the editorial staff of Zeligtube who, after checking the suitability of the material, will publish it on the site, subjecting it to the approval of the audience”.
Zeligtube is an initiative of Zelanda, the agency specialized in new digital media that exclusively manages important trademarks for the web like Zelig, and of Babelgum, the first Italian web TV and the pioneer of online and international mobile videos.
